Equinix SYD 3

Barnwell Cambridge was engaged as Principal Contractor by Equinix to deliver the turnkey solution to upgrade the capacity of their infrastructure at their SYD3 site to cater for growing client demands. The scope included full design and documentation, site control, building works, and all specialised services consisting of Electrical, Communications, Mechanical, Hydraulic, Fire and FCMS.

It was imperative to Equinix that the Data Centre facility remain fully operational during the works without inadvertent interruption to their existing clients. Therefore, loss of IT electrical supply throughout the upgrade of the electrical infrastructure was not an option and required very detailed programming to complete the switching of the various supplies. The installation of new Generators, Transformers, Switchboards and associated submains were installed in the live facility which required unique solutions, including the removal of external building precast panels for installation of new generators.

To ensure Equinix operational staff and their clients were fully informed, the site team provided detailed construction methodologies and programs updated weekly, with agreed milestone dates for any shutdowns or major works being maintained without slippage.
